honey bees

feral nest treatment

The eradication of a feral bee's nest follows a very similar process to that for wasps or hornets, using a professional grade pesticide, applied as a powder to each nest entrance.  Once treatment has been carried out and all the bees are eliminated, removal of the dormant nest isn't usually necessary. . .  it will not be re-occupied.

Being under threat and critically important to agriculture, bees can only be destroyed if they, or their nest, pose a risk to the public or property.

BONUS:  BEES. . .  TO RELOCATE OR ERADICATE?

Bees face many challenges for survival during their short existence, so the Waspman® will always endeavour to preserve them, whenever possible.  Ask yourself the following questions;

Are the bees a danger to you or your family?  Does any family member react violently to bee stings?  Is the swarm's nest close to a fire source or chimney?

Finally, is the nest easily accessible?  If so, it may be possible for a local beekeeping expert to relocate the swarm, and its queen (see 'swarm relocation' below).

If relocation is not practical, or the nest has to be eradicated for safety reasons, then all entry points will need to be sealed once activity stops to prevent non-target bees from entering the treated colony, robbing the honey and thereby endangering their own lives.

bee swarm relocation

A swarm of honey bees can include many thousands of bees, in a rugby ball shaped cluster, typically found hanging from a tree or fence.

If unwelcome honey bees have taken up residence at your property, you'll find a list of local apiarists in the The British Beekeepers' Association website.

Their volunteers may be able to collect swarms of honey bees so that they can be re-homed. . .  or ask the Waspman® for his advice!
